Why did you join Chi Phi?: I joined Chi Phi in Fall 2008; I was attracted to its status as the oldest national social fraternity, I got along great with the brothers during rush and loved my time around the house. When rushing Chi Phi, I felt my conversations were the most casual; nothing was forced and it was easy to be friendly with the brothers. I have since come to appreciate the longer-term benefits that came with being in Chi Phi - the alumni network, the connection back to 1530 Washtenaw, and my connection to my classmates with who I shared my experiences in Chi Phi.

Why did you join Chi Phi?: I wasn’t planning on joining a fraternity upon my arrival in Ann Arbor, but that quickly changed. Matt Carpenter and J.Mike Courage (who I attended Divine Child High School with in Dearborn) immediately got their hooks into me. They converted me from potential pledge to pledge class recruiter and the rest is history.

Why is it important to you that Chi Phi remains at 1530 Washtenaw for years to come?  Made lifelong friends there. Great memories. Part of my life I owe a lot to, and would be sad to not see it there.

It must. We almost lost the House to Ann Arbor Sheriff's sales of the House for non-payment of back taxes for 6 years in a row, I think? We kept it alive when, really, the House just about died. Carry on!

It's a tremendous opportunity for boys on their way to becoming men to figure it all out together and have a ridiculously good time in the process. Coming from a small town in Michigan it was my first exposure to guys from different religions, nationalities and geographies. Living in close confines with people from different backgrounds is a great way to learn about yourself and others.
